City hosting candidate workshop

| August 26, 2017 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Three seats on City Council are up for election in November, so the city is set to host its first-ever workshop for prospective candidates.

The three positions are currently held by Stephen Snedden, Bob Camp and Shannon Williamson, and Camp and Snedden are not running for re-election.

The idea for the workshop came about as a recommendation by members of the current City Council as part of a strategic priorities discussion, according to a statement released by city officials Friday. The purpose of the workshop is to help citizens interested in running for City Council understand what is really required and to most effectively prepare for the job.

"We will be highlighting how much time is really involved and what the time expectations are," said City Administrator Jennifer Stapleton in an email to the Daily Bee. "For example, each of our council members sits on one or more (usually more) committees and commissions in addition to their council meetings. We will also be discussing our strategic priorities and plans for this and next fiscal year. Both Bob and Stephen will be participating to answer questions."

The informational workshop for City Council candidates is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30. in the Sandpoint City Hall Council Chambers, 1123 Lake St.

The election for the four-year City Council positions is Nov. 7, and declaration of candidacy must be filed between Aug. 28-Sept. 8. Candidate filing forms are available at the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall or on the city’s website at bit.ly/2w5Y8wT.
