Wampus Cat Marathon receives kind donation

CLARK FORK — Wampus Cat Marathon race organizer Emory Clark was pleased to announce a recent $1,000 donation, which will be used to fund scholarships for Clark Fork High School students.

One of the racers in this year’s half marathon, who wished to remain anonymous, said he’s loved the experiences and people of Clark Fork so much in the first two events that he felt compelled to donate. The money is up and above what the initial fundraiser was able to generate, all of which benefits Clark’s alma mater.

“Is that not a great testimony?” asked Clark, noting that the official T-Shirts were sponsored the many fine merchants from Clark Fork and Sandpoint who donated the race. “It has a lot to do with the folks at the finish line and beyond.”

Mike Higdon, the official photographer, also started the three races and not only snapped dozens of pictures as the runners emerged beneath the balloon festooned arch, but also made contact with each runner, personally congratulating them.

It had to do with Brenda Haase, event manager, who headed up the finish line’s wide assortment of tasks and worked so diligently far ahead of the big day to the days after.

It had to do with Cindy Derr, who worked hand in hand with Haase, setting up far ahead of the event and handing out medals and Wampus Cat Marathon T-Shirts, but more importantly, recognizing each finisher for a job well done.

Last but not least was the Clark Fork principal Phil Kemink, who personally circulated continually through the small but energetic crowd at the finish area and let everyone know how much he appreciated them.

Clark is hoping to make the event bigger and better next year.
