Packed weekend awaits as fall makes appearance

SANDPOINT — What a packed weekend we’ve got going for you Labor Day revelers! Our own Holly McGarry is back in town tonight with her band, Honeysuckle, at the 219 Lounge.

We can all show our support for the fabulous work done by the Rock Creek Alliance with a party on Friday at Evan’s Brothers Coffee Roasters, plus the rollout of for days of Fall Fest fun at Schweitzer that same day.

On Saturday, the Funky Junk Antique Show & Craft Market gets underway for two great days at the fairgrounds and our first-ever Sandpoint Renaissance Faire launches Saturday and Sunday at Wood’s Ranch. Also Saturday, historical walking tours of downtown Sandpoint, hosted by the city’s historic preservation commission.

Thursday, Aug. 31

Honeysuckle with Holly McGarry

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 8 p.m.

Honeysuckle, a Boston based progressive folk trio, features Sandpoint’s own Holly McGarry! You will be in for a rare listening treat as Honeysuckle blends older influences and traditional instrumentation with modern effects and inspiration.

Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

Kevin Dorin

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6 p.m.

One of the most original voices you may ever hear, Kevin Dorin sounds like no one but Kevin Dorin. Join him for the Thursday Solo Series.

Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

Friday, Sept. 1

Fall Fest

Venue: Schweitzer Mountain Resort

Time: 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Fall Fest is 25 and it’s time to move out! Out of the village, that is.

With so many great beers, great bands and great fans who join this party over Labor Day weekend, the mountain is shifting its set-up to maximize the experience.

This year, you’ll find all the great beers located on the tennis courts above the new stage location on Musical Chairs. Kids activities will be found on the village lawn, as well as a selection of vendors offering local arts & crafts and delectable eats. Get ready for the event that winds summer down - Schweitzer’s Fall Fest!

Rock Creek Alliance Annual Party

Venue: Evans Brothers Coffee Roasters, 524 Church St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5-8 p.m.

Rock Creek Alliance has long been at the forefront of protecting our sacred Lake Pend Oreille — here’s your chance to support those efforts as you enjoy live music from Peter Lucht and Mike Johnson, plus a no-host, as well as food, beer, and wine.

The Beat Diggers

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 9 p.m.

Bring your dancing shoes and enjoy one of Sandpoint’s favorite up and coming all local bands as they play your favorite rock and roll tunes.

Devon Wade

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Devon is an independent country music artist out of Sandpoint Idaho with a strong love for what country music has always been, songs about real life.

Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

Saturday, Sept. 2

Funky Junk Antique Show & Craft Market

Venue: Bonner County Fairgrounds, 4203 N. Boyer, in Sandpoint.

Time: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

This is the 10th year for this rollicking, fun, funky antique and craft show! Funky Junk is the fun way to buy local, recycle and keep more of your hard earned green. Come and take a look, stay and play. This year’s theme is: Prospecting for Treasure.

Saturday will also feature live music from Bridges Home from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. — who have played at the show every year since its inception.

This is a grassroots Antique and craft show representing the simple, the pure, and the unaffected ties from the past to the present.

Admission: $5 (good for both days). Kids 12 and under are free.

Sandpoint Renaissance Faire

Venue: Wood’s Ranch, 1000 Woodside Dr. (north of Sandpoint)

Time: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

At long last — Sandpoint gets its very own Renaissance Faire! Prepare to watch jousting by the Epona Equestrian Team, period-themed events by the Society for Creative Anachronism, plus music, dance and lots of local artists. There’s also an alehouse for those over 21.

Admission: $10 adults ($8 with a bag of canned goods for the Bonner Community Food Center), $5 for seniors and children ages 5-17, with children under 4 admitted free.

Historical Walking Tour of Downtown Sandpoint

Venue: Downtown Sandpoint (meet in front of the Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave.)

Time: 10 a.m.-Noon

The city’s Historic Preservation Commission is hosting walking tours of downtown Sandpoint, using its publication, ‘Sandpoint — A Walk Through History’ as the guide. Another tour is scheduled for Sept. 9.

Admission: Free and open to the public. (Be sure to wear walking shoes!)

Live Music

The Sonic Bloom band feature five local musicians with their own sound to accompany songwriter Huckleberry’s tunes about nature, love, life and flying saucers. Admission: $10 admission. Beer, wine, snacks and soft drinks available.
