SANDPOINT — Sophomore guard Cade Vernon drained five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 23 points, none bigger than the two in the fourth quarter, as Sandpoint took down Timberlake 73-67 in nonleague boys basketball Thursday night at Les Rogers Court.

Alex Stockton and Robbie Johnson combined for 33 points, most of it in the paint, and were able to do some damage on the offensive glass for the Bulldogs (1-1), who used a 25 point fourth quarter to close out a game that was close from start to finish.

Vernon used his 6-3 height to shoot over the Timberlake zone, making timely threes when his team needed them all game long.

Jordan Hardy scored 21 points, Jacob James added 17, including three 3-pointers, and Colton Counts nabbed a steal and finished with a dunk at the other end for two of his 15 points in defeat for the Tigers.

Sandpoint caps a busy week tonight, when Mt. Spokane visits at 7 p.m.
