It is wrong to play the shame game on the Daily Bee. The editor asked me if I would include my name to the letter about Capt. Ed Freeman which I had sent to her. She should be commended for her openness. As I had received it from a trusted source, one of my brothers, I had not picked it apart for any flaws and I believed it was worth sharing.

If any criticism is warranted, it should be directed at me. I totally skipped the criticisms at the bottom of the letter as I believed the heart of the story was worth sharing. It appears that some people have chosen to ignore that heart.

The story of the captain’s efforts reminded me that except for the grace of God I could have been the young soldier in that place at that time and Ed’s courage might have saved even me. The story of his courage and bravery should not be ignored and forgotten, no matter one’s emotional sentiments about the so-called war. Whether overseas or in this nation, the sacrifice and selflessness of anyone who risks his life for anyone else should be appreciated and remembered.

Blame me for thinking that anything previously written is no longer worth sharing. No amount of scolding and fussy fault-finding should prevent good intentions.
