Polly Irvin-Pizzi caught this woodpecker in action working hard for a meal. “Depending on the species, woodpecker’s tongues can be up to 4 inches long to help them get bugs and seeds and nuts out of trees and holes,” wrote Polly Irvin-Pizzi. “They can be very annoying at about 5 in the morning with their rat-a-tat-tat.”
