PRIEST RIVER — Senior point guard Ciera Bailey had a huge game with 18 points and six steals, leading the Bulldogs to a convincing 65-12 nonleague win over Priest River Tuesday night in girls basketball at Priest River Elementary School.

The Bulldogs (2-4) jumped out to huge leads of 28-2 after one quarter and 52-7 at half, as the Spartans struggled for offense against a smothering defense. Grace Kirscher added 18 points and seven steals, as the Bulldogs’ full court pressure generated a lot of steals and easy baskets.

“We were able pressure Priest River with our press, which turned into several fast break opportunities in the first quarter,” said Bulldog assistant coach Will Love. “Ciera and Grace played like seniors and attacked from the start to get some easy baskets that gave us a comfortable lead early on.”

Senior Katherine Kaul made her season debut, and logged some quality minutes with three points and four rebounds, and Hattie Larson posted nine points and six steals in the win. Natalie Petit, who transfered from Priest River, scored four points to go with six steals against her former team.

“The younger girls played well too, led by some nice shooting from Hattie Larson in the first half,” said Love. “Hopefully, this will give us some momentum heading into some tough games later this week against St. Maries and Bonners Ferry.”

Sandpoint hosts St. Maries on Thursday, after winning by two in the first meeting.
