Sandpoint News-Bulletin Dec. 10, 1967 — CITY IN BRIEF

Mr. and Mrs. Alvie Jeffres and family returned Sunday from a two-week vacation trip to El Centro, Brawley and Los Angeles. The family visited Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm.

STIDWELL RECEIVES GOLD WATCH

Charles Stidwell, principal of Sandpoint Junior High, due to retire in January, received the legendary gold watch at a noon meeting at the North Shore Lodge Tuesday. The watch was a gift from fellow secondary school principals. After a letter of appreciation was read, the watch was handed over to Stidwell, who modestly gave his thanks and returned to his chair to open the gift.

NEW SCHEITZER PHONE LINE

Schweitzer has a new direct line phone to Spokane this season. Its recorded reports can be changed as conditions change, so Spokane area residents get up-to-the-minute word on snow and weather at the big bowl by dialing Temple 8-4052.

MISS CATHY BIRD IS JOB’S QUEEN

Cathy Bird, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Forest Bird, Palm Springs, Calif., will be crowned Dec. 17 as honored queen of the International Order of Job’s Daughters, Palm Springs chapter. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Moran, Sandpoint, are Miss Bird’s maternal grandparents.

Dec. 10, 1917 — COMPANY H IN FRANCE

Mrs. Violet Racicot-Benton received a postal card from her husband, Roy Benton, a private in the company formerly known as H Company of Idaho, informing her of his departure for Europe. The card, mailed at New York Nov. 24, stated the company was to sail that day. According to war department policy, the card was held at New York until the transport had reached Europe.

H Company did guard duty in Sandpoint during the labor trouble. On arrival in Long Island, they were transferred to an engineering department.

KEEP EXEMPTION BOARD POSTED

Adjutant General Moody has sent county registration boards an order calling upon all registrants who have changed their address to communicate immediately with the boards where they are registered so the questionnaires to be mailed Dec. 15 will reach them without delay. Registrants are bound by law to keep advised of all proceedings. Failure to do so may result in their losing right to claim exemption or discharge.

NEWS FROM GLENGARY

Ranchers of the peninsula’s west end have got together and ordered phones and will connect to the east end line until other provisions are made.

The dance given at Newman hall under the auspices of the Red Cross was largely attended and a tidy sum was realized for the good work.
