Stockton, Davis power Bulldogs past Badgers

| December 10, 2017 12:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint used a distinct height advantage, timely 3-point shooting and a huge second quarter to post a 75-66 win over Bonners Ferry in nonleague boys basktball Saturday night at Les Rogers Court.

Alex Stockton did the bulk of his damage on the blocks, scoring 18 points while blocking four shots and controlling the glass on both ends of the floor for the Bulldogs (3-2), who built a double digit halftime lead with a strong 24-11 second quarter.

At times, the Bulldogs had five players on the floor taller than the tallest Badger, which led to lots of second chance points. T.J. Davis scored a season-high 13 points, including a rare 4-point play, Robbie Johnson added 12 points and strong rebounding, and Christian Niemela drained two 3-pointers and converted an old-fashioned 3-point play to carry the Bulldogs in the third quarter.

Dylan Hittle scored 17, Chris Sabin 16 and Seth Bateman 15 to lead the Badgers, as the quick trio of guards were able to get to the rim early and often, but had trouble finishing lay-ups all night.

The Bulldogs are at St. Maries on Friday, looking to avenge a 13 point loss to the 2A Lumberjacks in the opener.

Badgers best Bulldogs for signature win

SANDPOINT — Senior Kadi Bateman poured in a game-high 23 points, and the Bonners Ferry girls scored their first win over Sandpoint since 2012, earning the Badgers a 65-52 signature win over the Bulldogs in nonleague girls hoops Saturday night at Les Rogers Court.

Miranda Wenk posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards, and Kassy Skeen and Holly Ansley combined for 27 points to lead the Badgers (5-0), who used an 11 point second quarter edge to build an early lead. Head coach Travis Hinthorn felt his team handled the Bulldogs’ press well, which was key.

“We’re going to have to handle pressure. Breaking the press is a big thing for us,” he said. “It was good for us to see that kind of pressure.”

Ciera Bailey scored a season-high 19 points in defeat for the Bulldogs (3-5), who had a tough shooting night. Grace Kirscher added 16 points and five rebounds, and Dawson Driggs four points and five boards.
