Driving to town Saturday, Dec. 9, I noticed a beautiful calico cat on the Long Bridge that had apparently been hit by a car. This is the third cat I’ve seen killed on the Long Bridge. I doubt that cats are running onto the bridge, but rather a sick, deprived lowlife who lacks empathy, choose to harm a small defenseless animal. A person who is vile enough to do harm to another, will, according to the FBI, most likely eventually harm children and others if they aren’t already doing so.

Taken directly from the fbi.gov website: “Acts of cruelty against animals are now counted alongside felony crimes like arson, burglary, assault, and homicide in the FBI’s expansive criminal database.” “The National Sheriffs’ Association was a leading advocate for adding animal cruelty as a data set in the Bureau’s collection of crime statistics. The association for years has cited studies linking animal abuse and other types of crimes — most famously, murders committed by serial killers like Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahlmer, and the “Son of Sam” killer David Berkowitz. The organization also points out the overlap animal abuse has with domestic violence and child abuse.”

If you’ve seen something or heard something I urge you to not be silent. I hope that, as we are blessed enough to live in one of the most beautifully pristine places in the country, we, as a community, don’t sit idly by while a few people do some despicable acts within our wonderful community.
