n World Cup Update — The ladies were only able to complete one race at St. Moritz due to fog. Mikaela Shiffrin finished 20th in that event, with Lindsey Vonn posting 24th.

The men were able to get both of their races off at Val d’Isere, France. Ted Ligety was 16th in Giant Slalom, followed by Tim Jitloff in 20th and Tommy Ford in 21st. The men were unable to put anybody in the points in the Slalom. n Mission Ridge FIS Open — Farli Boden was the only local athlete in this early season week of competition. She placed 9th and 12th in the Giant Slaloms, lowering her points in the process.

Addison McNamara had a great start to his FIS career this week, posting 19th and 12th place GS results, and 14th and 15th Slalom results. His effort yielded a very respectable start for his FIS profile.

n Learn to Cross Country Ski — Schweitzer in cooperation with the Sandpoint Nordic Club is hosting an opportunity to try and learn cross-country skiing on Saturday, Dec. 16. Contact the Activity Center at (208) 255-3081 for details.

n Junior Race Series sign-up – Fliers for the January Independence Junior Race Series are at the local ski shops. This popular series features free coaching, lots of prizes, lots of kids and lots of fun. Racers meet four Friday evenings in January from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Forms are at the Alpine Shop and Sandpoint Sports, or can be downloaded at www.independenceracing.com.
