SEAMAN HOLT SERVES IN FLEET SERVICE
Seaman James D. Holt, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth E. Holt, Sandpoint, participated in “Blue Lotus,” the largest U.S. First Fleet exercise in three years, aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Long Beach, held off the coast of Southern California from Nov. 28 to Dec. 9. It involved men in 45 ships and six air units.

TIMBER SURVEY PROVES DIFFICULT
Millard Evenson, hired by Sandpoint to evaluate the timber in city watershed property, reported difficulty determining property lines. The original survey was made Nov. 22, 1906, and blazed trees and wooden posts listed on the survey can no longer be found. Of 19 section corners in the Sand creek area, he was able to find seven.

Things went rather slow at the bazaar and sale Saturday because of the weather and road condition. Goods are on display at the Dover Community hall through Wednesday.

Dec. 17, 1917 — HAVE NOT SAILED
The rumor that the Sandpoint boys were on the way to France is erroneous. It arose from letters written by some of the boys to their friends when they were ordered to the “point of embarkation.” But it was not to go to France — only to change their location to Camp Merritt, N.J. The impression appears to be that they may embark for France soon, but it is only an impression.

MEASLES AMONG CHILDREN
Owing to misunderstanding regarding cases of German measles, the board of health decided that where the measles occur, all other children living in the same house must remain away from school for twenty days after the rash disappears.

RED CROSS DRIVE SLACKER LIST
During the Red Cross Christmas drive and immediately thereafter, a list will be published, giving names of persons abundantly able to buy a Red Cross membership but who refuse to do so. First on this list is A.E. Stutsman, of Sandpoint, Idaho. A committee Friday asked Mr. Stutsman to buy a membership in the Red Cross and to place in his store window a Red Cross Service Flag, which he refused to do.
