Dec. 19, 1967 — NEWS FROM WOODFAIRIE

Several men of the Edgemere Grange gathered at the Millard Clark ranch for a wood sawing bee for use at the Edgemere hall Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Judge were in Coeur d’Alene on business Saturday.

Joy Clark went Christmas shopping in Spokane Saturday with the Pascal Spades.

SNOWMOBILES BANNED FROM STREETS

A number of snowmobiles being operated on city streets over the weekend prompted Chief of Police George Elliot to warn snowmobile owners that running them in the streets is illegal and, more important, extremely hazardous.

Elliot noted that snowmobiles, being very low, are hard to see at intersections, and under conditions when they may be operated in the streets, the same conditions create stopping and other control problems for automobiles.

LEO HADLEY NEW SPORTSMAN BOSS

Sandpoint businessman-sportsman Leo Hadley was elected president of Bonner County Sportsmen’s Assn. Thursday. Dave Lewis will serve in the capacity of vice president for the next year, Sid Scribner was appointed to another term as secretary and treasurer. Directors are Hugh Alexander, Dave Lewis, Ted Farmin, Clarence Reed, Ron Young and Pete Dockins.

Dec. 19, 1917 — HIGH SCHOOL NOTES

At Monday’s meeting of the student body, the question of publishing a high school paper was discussed. The vote was unanimously in favor and the enthusiasm was very clearly shown. This paper will serve several purposes, giving the students knowledge of this work; creating greater school spirit and building a harmonious working spirit among the students as an organization.

ASHLEY WRITES FROM S.S. ST. LOUIS

U.S.S. St. Louis, Nov. 2, 1917 — Dear Mother: Am very glad to hear from you and get the News. I am sending you a photo of the ship. Fine looking battle car, isn’t it? I think I am very lucky to be on her. We have good wholesome food all the time.

We made a trip to England, and went from Plymouth to London, a wonderful city. We saw the spot from which the Pilgrims sailed. You must not worry because it will take a smart sub to get us. We have good warm clothing — overcoats, sweaters and boots, so we keep warm — don’t worry about that. Your loving son, William Ashley

MEATLESS CHRISTMAS

Christmas this year falls on Tuesday — meatless day. People who have signed the Hoover pledge card can further assist the government by refraining from making meat purchases for the Christmas table. Turkeys, chicken, game and fish should be used in place of beef, pork and mutton.
