Dec. 21, 1967 — NOTICE

The Pepper Office, at 109½ S. First Avenue, will be discontinued as of Jan. 1, 1968. Sincerest thanks to all the people in the community and area, patients, friends, business and personal associates who have made living in this lovely land a happy and rewarding experience.

Beginning Feb. 1, 1968, I shall be on the staff at the Porterville State Hospital in California.

I hope, eventually, to return here to make my home in this area. Dr. Mary O’Meara Pepper

LIBRARY MOVING DAY FRIDAY

Friday is moving day for the Sandpoint Library. The work of taking the books from City Hall to the new library building next to the News-Bulletin office will be handled by the 150 Seniors of Sandpoint Senior High. Cedar St. will be blocked off to car traffic at 2nd Ave. Each student will file out of the old library with an assigned number of books, walk north on the east side of 2nd to the corner of Safeway’s parking lot, then angle across 2nd to the library. After surrendering the books, they will file back to the old library for a new load. At 1 p.m. they will be released to go home.

All seniors taking part will get a free ticket to the Sandpoint Community Theatre production of “Scrooge.” They will also receive refreshments during return trips for more books.

Dec. 21, 1917 — BONES ARE HUMAN

A letter from the head of the department of anatomy at Oregon state university at Portland states that the bone found in the vicinity of the Palace hotel fire was no doubt the backbone of a human being. Establishment of the death of John Maloney upon finding the bone after the fire is still pending in probate court, upon application of the widow to be named administratrix of the estate.

SNOW IS GONE

A sudden temperature rise accompanied by Chinook winds made Sandpoint’s foot of snow disappear like magic. Sunday and Monday there was sleighing, but by Tuesday every bit of snow disappeared from the streets, yards and fields. Prophecies of an open winter are revived.

CASH AND CARRY PLAN FOR SANDPOINT

Charles Henry, head of conservation plans for Sandpoint, discussed with local grocers the matter of all grocers in Idaho going to the ‘Cash and carry’ plan the first of the year. ‘Cash’ means cash upon delivery of goods and credits not extended under any condition. ‘Carry’ means all deliveries will be cut out except when paid for by the customer. At a state meeting, a five cent charge was suggested, but no action was taken.

MAYOR TAKES RED CROSS MEMBERSHIP

Mayor Ewing took out Red Cross memberships today for himself and members of his family.
