With nearly glass-like smoothness on the ice of Lake Pend Oreille, a host of local hockey players played some fun pickup games on Wednesday near War Memorial Field. Rob Harrison Sr. used a snowblower, and with the help of a few shovels, a traditional pond hockey rink was suddenly formed. The scratch of skates clattering on ice and the clang of puck on stick carried for a ways at the peaceful setting, a perfect venue for some pond hockey.
