Dec. 28, 1967 — JUNIOR HIGH NEWS

A party Dec. 18 honored Charles Stidwell, who is retiring as principal Jan. 1. Miss Ann Curtis presented him a financial gift from School District faculty. James Stoicheff, Southside School principal, presented a plaque from the Bonner County Educational Assn. for his service to the district from 1922-1967. Francis McDonnell of Sandpoint High School presented Stidwell with a jacket in school colors. The Honor Society had a party at their meeting Dec. 19 to honor Stidwell.

GENE NELSONS JR. MARRIED DEC. 16

Mr. and Mrs. Gene Curtis Nelson Jr. reside in Tigard, Ore., after their Dec. 16 marriage at the First Church of God, Sandpoint. Rev. John Nelson, uncle of the groom, officiated.

Mrs. Nelson is the former Betsy Lee Belwood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Belwood of Laclede. The groom is the son of Mrs. Melvin Sparks and the late Gene C. Nelson Sr., Sherwood, Ore. Special wedding guests were the bride’s maternal grandmother, Mrs. Nora Graves, Laclede, and the groom’s paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Erick Nelson, Priest River.

NORDEEN COMPLETES BOOT CAMP

Seaman Apprentice Patrick Nordeen, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Nordeen, S. 338 Fourth Ave., graduated from nine weeks basic training at the Naval Training Center, San Diego.

Dec. 28, 1917 — CITY BREVITIES

Christmas day saw sleighing by a narrow margin. Another rain and Chinook starting in yesterday are uniting in taking the snow off again for the second time this month. A cold spell with zero weather is prevailing in the east.

CHURCHES AND ARMENIAN SUFFERERS

In response to the government’s call to the churches for a Christmas drive to aid the starving Armenians and Syrians, local churches gave: Presbyterian, $22 Sunday collection and $16 by the Sunday school; Christian, $15.50; Methodist, $45. The Baptists made their $5 contribution to suffering Italians. The Methodist society also sent necessities to the old people’s home run by the Deaconesses at Spokane, as a Christmas gift.

GOVERNMENT SURVEY OF FOOD

Local grocerymen were notified they must take a thorough inventory of their stocks at the close of the year and forward a copy to the agriculture department by Jan. 10, so the government has a complete survey of the country’s food stuffs. This applies to any concern with over $250 worth of food, including hotels, restaurants, hospitals, railroad commissaries, lumbermen, etc. Those who have not received the necessary forms are expected to apply for same to the bureau of market, Washington, D.C.
