Bulldog wrestlers fall to Vikings in home opener
SANDPOINT — Coeur d’Alene opened with seven consecutive pins before Sandpoint finally rallied with three pins of their own, resulting in a 60-30 win for the Vikings in a nonleague wrestling dual Friday night at Les Rogers Court.
Hunter Schueller (120), Jacob Krous (126), Payton Keough (132), Mitchell Moffat (145), Brayden McFarland (152) and Klayton Hindberg (160) picked up first period pins for the Vikings, who built a quick 42-0 lead early on. The dual took place during a blizzard, with the Vikings making the trek north regardless.
Mahonri Hunsaker (170), Andrew Webster (185) and Casey Olesen (113) controlled the action in their matches before picking up pins for Sandpoint, which was wrestling shorthanded due to the holiday, forcing head coach Jake Stark to juggle his lineup.
“Those three guys wrestled tough,” said Stark of the trio, all of whom figure to be state contenders come February. “Christmas break kind of hurt us, missing a few guys in the lineup.”
The Bulldogs will face Libby and Kellogg in a double dual on Thursday at SHS, followed by the Pacific Northwest Championships at University High School.
