Winter can't put chill on region's art options

SANDPOINT – Winter winds may blow, but they can’t melt the warm heart of the arts in Sandpoint. We’ve got ample proof of that in this week’s calendar. So much to do, in fact, that we are going to dive right in!

Thursday, Feb. 2

Paul Rawlings ‘Eclectic Collector’

Venue: East Bonner County Library, 1407 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: Noon – Thursday, Feb. 2

Join this fascinating collector as he introduces the topic: ‘Creating A Work of Art by Merging Art, Artifacts & Books.’ Hosted by the Friends of the Library.

‘Things to Come’

Mostly Harmless

Venue: Ol’ Red’s Pub, 202 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 8 p.m.

This eclectic duo always takes things up a couple of notches, both in choice of repertoire and musical delivery. Plus, they really are mostly harmless. Honest.

Harold’s IGA

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 9 p.m.

One of Sandpoint’s top Indie bands mixes it up with cool covers and strong original material.

Devon Wade

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St. in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m.

Country music the way it was meant to be — no frills and lots of feeling.

Coeur d’Alene Jazz Dance Benefit

Venue: Lake City Center, 1916 Lakewood Dr., in Coeur d’Alene.

Time: 7 p.m.

This benefit concert features the Pamela Benton Band and an auction of culinary experiences. Includes hors ’d oeuvres and a no-host wine bar. Benefiting the Unity Spiritual Center and North Idaho Pride Alliance.

Diani & Devine ‘Meet the Apocalypse’ Comedy Show

Venue: The Bing Crosby Theater, 909 W. First Ave., in Spokane.

Time: Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Two comedians. One apocalypse. When all power and communication systems mysteriously shut off, down on their luck comedians Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine pack up their things and hit the road in search of a safe haven to wait out the possible extinction event.

Comedy For A Cause

Phil’s stand up is fun and easy to relate to. He often dissects marriage and small town life, all while trying not to make too much fun of his kids. He had ‘em in stitches to take 1st Place at Valleyfest Clean Comedy Competition in 2015. Come and join in the laughs as you help raise funds for the next stage of upgrading the Panida’s sound system.

Friends of the Library Used Book Sale

The Friends of the Library invite you to warm your cold, cold hands during their monthly book sale. They are again featuring CDs at the low price of four for $1 and DVDs for $0.50. Check out the selection of books about sailing and flying, fishing, animals and a collection of books about politics and political figures, both past and current.

Long-Distance Hiking Clinic

Venue: Lake City Community Church, 6200 N. Ramsey Rd., in Coeur d’Alene.

Time: Doors open at 8:15 a.m., clinic runs from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

This clinic is designed for anyone interested in doing a long distance hike, especially on the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, Pacific Northwest Trail or any other long distance trail.

Presenters are experienced long distance hikers and Triple Crown recipients who have hiked a minimum of 8,000 miles and completed the Pacific Crest Trail, the Appalachian Trail and the Continental Divide Trail.

Admission: $10 for ALDHA West members; $20 for non-members.

Spokane Symphony & Lon Chaney’s ‘Phantom’ film

POAC Presents: Alistair Fraser & Natalie Haas

XSandpoint Contra Dance

Celebrate the joys of community by dancing with friends – those you already know and the new ones you’re about to meet! Live music will be provided by ‘Arvid Lundin & Deep Roots’ and all dances are called by Emily Faulkner. Previous dancing experience is not necessary.
