This letter is for those in our community who are generally supportive of our public schools. Over the last 16 years great progress has been made in the Lake Pend Oreille School District. Our teachers have always been great. Now they’re supported by a highly skilled team of administrators and principals. Plus they’ve been backed by you, the patrons, those of you who have consistently supported school levies. Together, we’ve made LPOSD into one of the best school districts in the state.

But, as a friend of mine reminded me the other day, “Progress is never a destination, it is a journey.” Today we have fellow citizens that are actively organizing to return our shining school district to mediocrity. And that’s exactly what would happen if you remove one-third of the funding and 165 full time staff position. Class sizes go up, enrichment activities go down.

We’re talking about our kids and our neighbor’s kids, our treasured community. If you support our schools, you must take a moment to vote on March 14 for the essential operations levy. To quote Mother Teresa, “Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.”
