Our forestland boasts the original path to Scotchman Peaks. We regularly have people stop by to inquire about the trail; it’s been an opportunity for us to share what is great about the state of Idaho, particularly its panhandle.

As a volunteer with Idaho Master Forest Stewards since 2009, I know what it means to support habitat. I also volunteer as a writer-editor for Women Owning Woodlands.

Some in the community are scared of a wilderness act, and I’d like to assure you of its great benefits. This act increases our access to the wilderness and ensures that what makes Idaho great is served. The Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness have worked tirelessly on behalf of all Idahoans to keep our access for hunting, fishing, photography, backpacking, hiking, and forest access. Their programs are a reason people have more awareness of their great backyard. In 1991, when I first started hiking the Scotchman Peak trail, I rarely saw people. Now, I do. That’s a wonderful testament to access.

As a 10-year Idaho college instructor, and a person who has worked her own land, I’m in a unique place to dispel the fear many in our community have shown about wilderness designation. Further, the honorable Sen. James Risch, R-Idaho, supports this designation.

Thank you for your support of the wilderness designation on the Idaho side of the Scotchman Peaks, consistent with the Forest Service’s revised Land Management Plan.
