The SHS Model U.N. program is one of many unique educational opportunities offered by Lake Pend Oreille School District. Students explore solutions to world problems in a hands-on way through participation in a National High School conference in New York City involving thousands of the best and brightest students from across the United States and world. Students engage in the rigorous academic work of the conference but also spend one day experiencing art, culture and history by visiting museums as well as Broadway.
SHSMUN is funded through community support including grants, donations and fundraising. Equinox and Bonner County Human Rights Task Force are two major supporters. Students fundraise and pay out-of-pocket expenses to fund this educational experience. I encourage students and parents who have participated in this educational program to share that with our community. This is one more way that LPOSD serves our students and a reason to support the upcoming replacement levy.
Idaho does not provide enough funds annually to school districts to provide the quality education our students deserve. The local citizens of Bonner County are asked every two years to continue funding our high performing schools at a level necessary to provide a quality education for our students. LPOSD will continue to be a responsible steward of our tax dollars toward that end.
Vote yes for the replacement levy on March 14. Voice your support by writing letters and talking to your neighbors about the facts surrounding this bi-annual funding necessity.
