While I am well beyond the point of having school-age children, I still believe that it is my civic duty to support our public school system. My family was relatively poor and I credit a lot of my success to being able to attend a good public school system. It allowed me to provide my children with similar opportunities, which I am glad to say they took advantage of. It also gave other children of all income ranges similar opportunities to advance. In my opinion, public education at all levels is a vital part of what has made our country great.

We have to continue that tradition by supporting our local schools. I don’t like the idea of having to pay for this supplemental levy any better than anyone else, but this is Idaho and the government coffers don’t provide enough money to support our schools.

We elect a school board to oversee our schools and select qualified personnel to operate them. If educational attainment results are what is important, they seem to have been doing a pretty good job.

This levy is not the place to nitpick about minimal operational issues because a no vote destroys a lot more than it will ever fix. If you are unhappy with the way our schools are being managed, fix it the right way by electing directors who will make constructive changes.

Vote yes on the upcoming supplemental levy and keep our schools moving forward.
