The steps to a new you are easier than you think. Be responsible and take a step … there will be people along the way to hold your hand and guide you to a much deserved healthier lifestyle.

Excess weight places men, women and children at risk of developing serious health problems. A successful weight loss and healthy weight management depend on sensible goals and expectations. Most overweight individuals should lose weight gradually. For safe and healthy weight loss, try not to exceed a rate of two pounds per week. Sometimes, people with serious health problems associated with obesity may have legitimate reasons for losing weight rapidly. If so, a physician’s supervision is required.

Here are a few simple steps to get you started:

1. Obtain the right mindset to make a change. Old habits are hard to break, and eating for some people is considered a comfort and stress reliever. They gorge themselves on whatever is around because they had a bad day. Guess what: You can still eat healthy and feel comfortable — especially in your jeans. Trust me, if you have to buy larger jeans this fall, you will be even more stressed — and, the cycle will just continue.

2. Take a good look at what’s hiding in your kitchen. Reading labels can be a tremendous eye opener. Have on hand plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, high quality protein and good fiber sources. When time is of the essence and it’s been a long day at the office — you shouldn’t have to think twice about what you and your family are putting in to your body.

3. Turn the TV off after dinner. Take a family walk around the block after dinner. It’s a wonderful bonding time with loved ones that you most likely haven’t seen all day — and, you’re burning a few calories at the same time.

Three small steps you can do this week. I would love to hear from those of you who actually took --- three small steps. Mindset. Kitchen. Move. You’re never too busy to stop taking care of yourself. Breathe and move.
