I am proud to say that I was born and raised right here in North Idaho and I attended public school in Hope and in Sandpoint. I can still remember the days when kids would have to jump on a train car in order to get to and from Sandpoint. We’ve come a long way since that time. While I wouldn’t trade those days of my past, I am grateful for the progress that we have made toward education today.
I believe the overall goal of a school system is to produce well-rounded young adults who are ready to face what the world has to offer them. These young adults are our future leaders, doctors, lawyers, teachers, factory workers, and accountants. I, for one, want to make sure they are competent and capable to handle the challenges of adulthood. That’s what a good public school system does — it prepares our students. A good public school provides opportunities for our students to stretch their wings not only in academics but extracurricular activities, whether it be sports, drama, debate, etc.
As I continue to get older, I am looking at the next generation of leaders. Who will it be? I for one want to make sure they are ready. So if you were like me and needed more information, I went online. As a retired accountant, I’m a numbers type of guy. I found everything I needed to make an informed decision, and I believe it is tax dollars well spent. So please join me in supporting the March 14 levy. Please vote yes.
