Winter Carnival heats up entertainment options

SANDPOINT — Winter Carnival — need we say more? Get your sleep and take your vitamins. You’ll need all the energy you can get this week, starting tonight!

Thursday, Feb. 23

POAC Presents: Rob Verdi’s Take 5

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Prepare to be amazed as this quintet explores more than a half-century of jazz classics. Well-known saxophonist Rob Verdi will be accompanied by Quinn Van Paepeghem on guitar, Shirley Van Paepeghem on vocals, Mike Seifrit on bass, and Patrick Kurdy on drums. This performance includes the SHS choir and Jazz Band on the Panida stage with Take 5.

Admission: $20 for adults, $13 POAC Supporters and $10 for children 18 years and younger. This performance is sponsored by Architecture 311.5 and the Bonner County Daily Bee.

Dinner Hour Jazz

Venue: Trinity at City Beach, 58 Bridges St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5-7 p.m.

Join Sandpoint’s own “cool cats” of jazz as the MCS Jazz Ensemble grooves through the dinner hour. Make your reservations early; the first 20 diners will receive tickets to Pend Oreille Arts Council’s presentation of Rob Verdi’s Take 5, playing at 7:30 p.m. at the Panida Theater. This event is proud to be a part of the Sandpoint Winter Carnival.

Thursday Night Solo Singer/Songwriter Series. Acclaimed Northwest guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Truck Mills is coming to the Beer Hall! As a musical explorer, the foundation of his music lies in the country blues tradition and he has been hailed by critics as a master of the fingerpicked slide guitar, but he roves far and wide from this grounding.

International Guitar Night

The Dating Game — Sandpoint Style

Come re-live the fun of the Dating Game! Winter Carnival brings with it all forms of entertainment and the Panida is participating with the Sandpoint Style version of the classic show ‘The Dating Game.’

Heather Guthrie Exhibit Opening

Venue: POAC Gallery, 302 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30-7 p.m.

Pend Oreille Arts Council will be celebrating their Teacher of the Year, Heather Guthrie, by exhibiting her new work titled, Canyon Lands. Refreshments will be served.

In the Little Theater Gallery, adjacent to POAC Gallery, a water-themed exhibit will showcase the art of twelve local artists. Exhibit continues through March 24.

Social Dance

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Come celebrate the fun tradition of social dancing in Sandpoint. This fun event starts with a one-hour Salsa lesson taught by a local professional instructor from 7- 8 pm, followed by general dancing, refreshments, door prizes, mixers, and a drawing for one month of free dance lessons. Singles, couples and all levels of dancers are welcome.

Angels Over Sandpoint present 15th Annual ‘Follies’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 7 p.m. and the variety show starts at 8 p.m. (An additional show is scheduled for March 4)

This is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Angels — an event that specializes in a spectacle of the politically incorrect variety. The Follies are Rated R for risky, racy and risqué — the presenters warn that the shows are ‘not for the easily offended’ — and you must be 21 or over to attend.
