We would like to voice our firm support for the upcoming supplemental school levy on March 14. Both of us deeply appreciate the fine education we received here and know how vital these levies are for our district to continue with a quality program for our community’s children.

The funds allocated back from Boise each session cover only a portion of the needs for basic operation. The current levy accounts for approximately one-third of the money needed to operate normally. The proposed levy would simply replace, not add to, the current levy when it expires the end of this year. It would be hard to imagine any business, regardless of how well managed it might be, to absorb a sudden cut of this magnitude without having to make drastic changes. Our school district is no different. Without it, we would most likely see large-scale closures, a resultant and significant increase in class sizes, sharp curtailment of all extracurricular activities, and a need for massive cutbacks in staffing. None of this bodes well for maintaining the quality of our educational program.

If we want a stable and healthy community, our businesses to attract workers and prosper, families to be able to live here, and our children to be able to remain here, then we must vote in favor of this supplemental levy. Please join us in supporting it.
