Schools must teach parenting for those who can't, won't

| January 1, 2017 12:00 AM

A recent letter writer indicated that the schools are not to blame for students’ failure.

Well perhaps, but the schools can certainly help the situation. Now, sex education classes are offered to the students, but sex is certainly going to happen, whether or not the students are educated in the subject.

Not so with parenting, and this is where education is really important.

The educators should be encouraged to make parenting an important part of sex education courses and require all students to successfully complete them.

Parenting should begin at birth by giving the child lots of tender love and by soon reading stories to them. This is where the love of learning begins, and continues throughout the child’s lifetime.

Since many parents are failing to teach parenting, the schools must do the job for them
