The “My Turn” column (Dec. 29, 2016) made me laugh. Among several illogical statements, Mr. Roach blames the goat-human conflicts on the Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness group. That line of reasoning reminds me of the woman who was upset with Fish and Game for putting up “game crossing” signs. She wanted them to move the signs so that wildlife would stop crossing the road.

People have been hiking, snowshoeing, and yes, even cross-country skiing the Scotchman Peaks area for many years because of its rugged beauty and magnificent views. As the Inland Northwest population grows, more people are going to be outdoors. Trail No. 65 is popular because it is relatively short, accessible to the general population, and leads to the highest point in Bonner County. Unfortunately, many people do not understand the dangers of human-wildlife interactions. FSPW took on the responsibility of educating the public — they deserve kudos, not blame.
