| January 5, 2017 12:00 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Former practice partners squared off on Wednesday, with reigning two-time 4A state champion Casey Randles beating former teammate Owen Stebbins 18-8 in a major decision in the marquee match of the night, leading the 5A Vikings to a 43-30 win over Sandpoint in a wrestling dual Wednesday at Coeur d’Alene High School.

Randles, arguably the top wrestler in the state who has committed to wrestle at Wyoming, transfered with his dad Mike Randles, the longtime Bulldog wrestling coach who took a job as Vice Principal at Coeur d’Alene High School.

Preston Bunty secured a pin with 12 seconds left to post a big win for the Bulldogs at 152 pounds, while Mason Bangeman (120), Tucker Hall (132), Scout Nash (138) and Andrew Webster (170) also notched quality wins over 5A opponents in the dual.

The Bulldogs are now 5-3 on the season on duals.

Hunter Schueller (106 pounds) and Ethan Lillis (160) won by pin for the Vikings, who won the first six matches for the big early lead.

The Bulldogs and Vikings will both be competing in the Northwest Classic on Friday and Saturday at University High in Spokane Valley.
