Undean Grace Rainey, 91

Undean Grace Rainey passed away at Luther Park in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Dec. 27, 2016, at the age of 91. She will be remembered for her faith, patience, kindness, her strength, her sense of humor, and pleasure she took in activities like gardening, huckleberry picking, cooking and canning, entertaining friends and dancing with her husband Francis. She was a lifelong member of Sandpoint’s First Lutheran Church.

Undean was born in Sandpoint on March 6, 1925 to Henry and Rowena Knudson and was raised in Mill Town. She attended local schools, graduating from Sandpoint High School in 1943.

After graduating from high school, Undean attended college in Spokane and Seattle and she also spent two years studying and working in Minneapolis. Following her return to Sandpoint, she began working at North Idaho Clinic. She retired in 1986 after having worked with Dr. Marienau for several years as his receptionist and insurance clerk.

She married Francis Rainey in 1952 and they spent their life together at their home on South Boyer in Sandpoint and they celebrated their 50th anniversary shortly before Francis passed. Together they raised four children, Mike, Sandy, Doug and Janice.

Un- dean is survived by three children, Mike (Nan Cluss) of Hansen, Idaho, Sandy (John Maras) of Sandpoint, and Janice (Mark Johnson) of Sandpoint; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Rainey of Sagle; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Aleatha (Bob) Sawhill of Sandpoint, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Undean was preceded in death by her husband Francis in 2002, her son Doug in 1998, and her brother John Knudson.

Undean will be laid to rest at Pinecrest Cemetery next to her husband, Francis. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at First Lutheran Church on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 1 p.m.
