Jan. 8, 1967 — CAR OVERTURNS

Mrs. Don Samuelson overturned the family car near Cascade early Friday on her way to join her husband, Governor Don Samuelson, in Boise.

Valley County Sheriff Morton Logue said Mrs. Samuelson was approaching the east end of Rainbow bridge about 16 miles south of Cascade at approximately 1 a.m. when the car hit a slick spot and careened off the road. Mrs. Samuelson and her passengers, son Steve and her father-in-law, Fred Samuelson, were unhurt and continued on to Boise. Sheriff Logue said roads in the area were very dangerous Friday morning.

JIM NIEMAN LEADS BULLDOGS VICTORY

Jim Nieman poured in 25-points to lead Sandpoint past Post Falls 63-53 in Bulldog gym last Friday. In the third period Nieman started to get hot, scoring Sandpoint’s first two baskets in the quarter then closing the stanza with six straight, getting 10 of his team’s 15 points in that period. He did much the same in the last eight minutes, scoring the Bulldog’s final six points.

The game may have been costly for the Bulldogs in spite of the victory. Sophomore guard Jack Parkins, who has shown excellent offensive potential in the last two games, hurt his ankle seriously in the first minute of the second quarter.

Jan. 8, 1917 — COLDEST IN 15 YEARS

John McDuffie, former county commissioner says this is the coldest spell he has known in 15 years, and the coldest he has ever known this early in the winter. Wednesday last L.H. LaFrenz, local weather observer, reported 21 below Zero.

PRINCIPAL’S PLACE DECLARED VACANT

The friction between Prof. Robinson, principal of the Sandpoint high school, and the school board came to a focus at a special board meeting two weeks ago, when Robinson was asked to appear before the board to discuss the differences. After he refused to do so, a resolution passed declaring the office of Sandpoint high school principal vacant after Dec. 31, 1916.

WILL RETURN TO SANDPOINT

Dr. Rosetta Shortridge, osteopathic physician who left Sandpoint two months ago for Seattle, says she will return and again claim Sandpoint as her residence. She stated she made more money here than any osteopath doctor in Seattle.

BUYS HARDWARE STOCK

C.W. Wilson and Mort Foster purchased the hardware stock of Geo. Chamberlain, 211 First, and will conduct business there, adding Foster’s stock, which had been at the north end of First.

Wilson has been a Sandpoint resident for 18 years, 15 as postmaster. Foster has lived here nine years and conducted a roofing, plumbing and heating business, later selling automobiles.
