| January 14, 2017 12:00 AM

Allyn James “Bud” Miller, 83, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at the Hope Cemetery with Bishop Mike Strock presiding. An open house will follow at 12:30 p.m. at “The Barn,” 10204 Baldy Mountain Road, Sandpoint.

Bud was born on March 23, 1933, in Casper, Wyo., and raised by parents Mildered and Tom McClendon. He grew up and attended schools in Long Beach, Calif., graduating from Long Beach Wilson High School. Bud served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan.

Bud married his sweetheart Blanche Monroe on Jan. 20, 1957, in Long Beach, they were later sealed for time and eternity in the LDS Los Angles Temple.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in business from Long Beach State College before serving a career in the food industry. Bud was the first dean of McDonald’s Hamburger University in Chicago. He also worked as a vice president of training for McDonalds, A&W, Ramada, and the Velvet Turtle.

Some of the changes he made in the food industry are still used today. He later managed a large insurance brokerage in Montclair, Calif.

Bud and Blanche moved to Hope, Idaho, in 1993. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Sandpoint Ward. Bud served in various callings in the LDS church, but his favorite calling was teaching, he liked to challenge his students and really make them think.

He enjoyed woodworking, turning wood on a lathe, art, jazz, and watching sports on TV. He also had a quick wit and a wry sense of humor.

Bud is survived by his three sons J. Kirk (Natalie) Miller of Sandpoint, Thomas S. (Suzy) Miller of Sandpoint, and Robert D.A. (Marisa) Miller of Pleasant Grove, Utah; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Blanche, brother Bob Miller and sister Bonnie Miller.

We are so pleased that Bud and Blanche are finally able to be reunited again after 12 long years apart. What we wouldn’t have given to see our beloved mother’s face, tears of joy abounding as her husband of 60 earthly years happily returns back to her loving presence for all of time and eternity.
