Task force releases deputies', suspect's names
BLANCHARD — The names of the deputies involved in Monday’s shooting have been released as has that of the suspect.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, acting as lead investigative agency for the North Idaho Critical Incident Task Force on the Bonner County deputy-involved, identified the deputies as Michael R. Gagnon, 53; Justin M. Penn, 30; and William T. Craffey, 47. The suspect was identified as Adam Deacon Foster, 30, of Mountain View Road, Bonner County.
Gagnon has 1 year 9 months service with the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office, Penn has 5 1/2 years, and Craffey has worked for BCSO for nine months.
Both Gagnon and Penn were shot while trying to serve a warrant on Foster about 11:30 a.m. Monday. They remain at Kootenai Health due to gunshots wounds sustained during the arrest attempt. Gagnon is listed in serious condition and Penn is listed in fair condition. Craffey was not injured during this incident.
Foster remains at Kootenai Health recovering from gunshot wounds he received during this incident and is listed in fair condition.
The three Bonner County deputies were involved in the attempted warrant arrest of Foster at his address on Mountain View Road when gunfire was exchanged. The investigation is in its early stages with detectives from multiple agencies of the Critical Incident Task Force collecting evidence and statements from witnesses. Crime scene processing is ongoing.
Per normal protocol, all three deputies will be on administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation. Information will be released as it becomes available for release.
