Interesting letter submitted by Carol Jenkins in the Daily Bee (Jan. 12, 2017). A New York couple has been here twice in the past seven years to hike Scotchman Peaks while spending money for two weeks. Great. Scotchman Peaks is not classified as wilderness, as least not yet. This just shows that people enjoy Scotchman Peaks just the way it is so there is no point in classifying it as wilderness. Get real.

The primary tourism draws here are our beautiful lakes followed by Schweitzer Ski Basin. The economic benefits, if any, of classifying Scotchman Peaks as wilderness, would be negligible. This issue needs to be decided by other criteria.
