This letter is in response to David Banning’s letter concerning extracurricular activities and the upcoming levy. His letter mentions that all club advisers at Sandpoint High School are paid positions. For the purpose of accuracy, academic club advisors (Model United Nations, Math Counts, National Honors Society, Cedar Post as examples) are supported with a stipend and non-academic clubs operate on a volunteer basis.

I started the SHS Honor Flight Club four years ago and at absolutely no time has this been a paid position. Our club has done it strictly on a volunteer basis; which all of us have been proud to do. The club was created to raise money for veterans and the money raised has went directly to Inland Northwest Honor Flight in Spokane, not for the financial gain of Sandpoint High School or Lake Pend Oreille School District.

The students at this school have committed many volunteer hours to this project and so far we have raised over $10,000 and sent it all to INWHF in Spokane. This club has been a good example of kids doing good things in our community and we could not have accomplished this without the support that this school district has given to this club. Please strive to be accurate in your statements and factual in your efforts.
