Edwin P. Still Jr., 92, a long-time resident of Priest River, Idaho, died Jan. 16, 2017, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Private memorial services will be held later.

Ed was born to Mildred (Crabtree) and Edwin P. Still Sr., on Jan. 20, 1924, in Steele County, N.D., moving to North Idaho with his parents and siblings in 1936. He was always an advocate of education, graduating from Sandpoint High School, and then pursuing a lifetime of learning. Ed was, throughout his life, a mentor to young people, family members, and friends.

During World War II, Ed served as a civilian at Farragut Naval Training Station, while also continuing to work on the family farm. He later worked as a regional Dairy Herd Improvement Association milk tester until his retirement, during which he independently worked buying and selling both homes and properties, in addition to building homes.

His expertise as a professional round and square dance caller, specializing in singing calls, earned him a state award plaque. He enjoyed dancing, singing, traveling and camping, as well as writing witty and humorous poetry for family and friends.

He is survived by his sister, Kathryn Hamshar of Priest River; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Hazel Turinsky and Mary Sperry; and brother Richard Still.

Memorial donations may be made in Ed’s name to the Idaho Commission for Libraries, Talking Book Services, 325 W. State Street, Boise, ID 83702.

Family and friends are invited to sign Ed’s online guestbook at www.coffeltfuneral.com.
