SANDPOINT — A Bonner County sheriff’s deputy who was shot in the line of duty Monday was released from the Kootenai Health on Thursday, but a fellow deputy remained listed in serious condition.

Kootenai County sheriff’s officials said Deputy Justin Penn, 30, was released from the Coeur d’Alene hospital, but Deputy Michael Gagnon, 53, remains hospitalized in serious condition. Adam Deacon Foster, a 30-year-old Blanchard man who traded gunfire with the deputies, was listed in fair condition, Kootenai officials said.

The two deputies were serving an arrest warrant on Foster at his home at 780 Mountain View Road when the gunfire broke out. Kootenai County is the lead agency in the shooting investigation by the Critical Incident Task Force.
