SANDPOINT — Bonner County commissioners appointed Robert Beers on Wednesday to complete the term of Coroner Kathryn “Kit” Rose, who announced her retirement last month.

Beers brings to the office 12 years of law enforcement experience, which includes working more than six years as a narcotics detective.

Beers is scheduled to be sworn into office when the county commission holds its weekly business meeting on Tuesday.

Beers’ appointment comes a few days before Rose’s retirement was set to take affect. Rose, who brought a nursing and legal background to the job, was in office for 14 years

Beers is a former Sandpoint Police officer who accumulated more than 1,600 hours of Police Officer Standards & Training education, according to his profile on LinkedIn. He is also a United States Marine Corps veteran who served with a security forces detachment in Sasebo, Japan.

Beers completed his military service stationed in Twentynine Palms, Calif., where he was meritoriously promoted to corporal.

Beers is currently a security officer at Alliance Data Card Services, according to LinkedIn.

Beers was among three names on a short list developed by the Bonner County Republican Central Committee. All three nominees were interviewed by county commissioners on during a special meeting on Wednesday.

Rose’s retirement is scheduled to take effect on Saturday.
