RATHDRUM — Trinity Golder came up huge for the Bulldogs, scoring 16 of her game-high 25 points in the first half to lead her team to a 60-41 win over the Hawks in 4A Inland Empire League girls basketball at the Battle for the Paddle in Lakeland.

Golder added seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals for the Bulldogs (7-10, 2-0 4A IEL), who used a 22-13 second quarter run to build a permanent lead.

Grace Kirscher added 12 points and five steals, but was plagued by foul trouble most of the night and ended up fouling out. Golder stepped up and took charge in her absence.

“She did a good job of being the lead dog on a night when Grace was in foul trouble,” said Bulldog assistant coach Will Love. “She was really looking to drive tonight, which is something we’re really excited about.”

Tauna Kirk had nine points and five assists for the Hawks (2-14, 0-2 4A IEL), who kept the game close for a quarter.

“They just started knocking some shots down,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “Golder had a great first half. Sandpoint played a good game and their defense gave us fits. It was a crazy environment and tough to hear, but we just need to play with some more composure and take care of the ball better.”

Grace Hicks pulled down six rebounds and Audrey Matilla had nine points, as the Bulldogs continue to get more production from other players. The Bulldogs finished 19-33 from the foul line in a game that featured a lot of whistles. Love had high praise for the play of Matilla.

“Audrey played her best game. Scored, rebounded, played good defense,” he said. “She provided a spark that led us to that big second quarter.”

Sandpoint is at Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday.

n Bulldog boys lose on buzzer beater

RATHDRUM — Kaden Davis hit a 3-pointer with 2.5 seconds remaining to send the Hawks past the Bulldogs in the inaugural Battle for the Battle spirit game at Hawk Court.

“It was a nice, dramatic ending to a new spirit game,” Lakeland assistant coach Bill Ryan said. “It was a really good battle with a loud environment. Every possession was a battle and it just came down to us getting the ball to the guy we wanted and it was a good spot on the court for him.”

Sandpoint tied the game with seven seconds remaining on a free-throw by Patrick Rockwell. Dylan Vahey rebounded the second foul shot and got the ball to Davis for the game-winner in the left corner.

Dylan Knight scored 16 points for Lakeland (5-10, 1-1 4A Inland Empire League).

n Wampus Cat girls fall to Knights

CLARK FORK — Lillian Rhea and Corin Peone combined for 32 points, and the Knights jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, downing the Wampus Cats 61-37 in North Star League girls basketball Friday night at Clark Fork High School.

The hot-shooting Knights (11-1, 6-0 NSL) built a quick 35-13 halftime lead to earn the season sweep.

“They’re a good team, and they shot the ball really well,” said Cats head coach Mark Stevens of the league-leading Knights. “We just started out slow. We battled back some in the second half. All I can ask is for them to keep playing hard.”

Sophomore Tessa Sutton had 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals, Brooke Stevens added 11 points and two steals and freshman Ellie Kiebert 10 points and four steals in defeat for the young Wampus Cats (1-11, 1-5 NSL), who lost some senior leadership and defense when Emily Garman was lost for the season with a shoulder injury.

The Cats travel to face another Clark Fork from Montana today in nonleague action.
