Jail time is ordered in sex abuse case

SANDPOINT — A Sagle woman who pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of minor was ordered Friday to serve 90 days in jail.

An agreement with the state and the defense sought to make binding upon the court recommended no jail time as a condition of parole.

First District Judge Barbara Buchanan, however, declined to adopt the agreement in Amanda Marie Nordland’s case, court records show.

Nordland retained the option of rescinding her plea in light of the court’s position, but elected to proceed to sentencing.

Nordland, 30, was charged with touching a 10-year-old girl’s pubic region over the child’s clothes in the spring of 2016. The alleged victim told investigators that the incident occurred during a sleepover, according to court documents.

Nordland initially denied touching the girl, but later admitted the misconduct during a polygraph examination in Coeur d’Alene, court records indicate. Nordland also provided a written statement admitting her culpability.

Buchanan imposed a suspended two- to four-year prison term and placed Nordland on supervised probation for four years. Nordland was further required to register as a sex offender upon her release from the jail, court records show.
