I just read Louis Perry’s letter inquiring “if school levies are really for community’s kids?”

The answer is a resounding yes.

Shawn Woodward and his excellent team of educators have always put our children’s educational needs front and center. The upcoming levy increase averaged over the next two years will increase approximately 3.83 percent. This bare-bones increase will be used for a myriad of expenditures for our children. Adding a counselor to our district of nearly 3,600 kids is probably a great idea since the student-counselor ratio is approximately one per 360 children. I don’t consider a school counselor a “high ticket item.”

Let me ask Mr. Perry to reconsider his position and vote “yes” for the levy on March 14.

I am a firm believer in the adage “the better the education, the less the incarceration.”
