Tough third quarter costs Bulldogs in loss

| January 26, 2017 9:38 PM

SANDPOINT — Lake City used a big third quarter to turn the game around, grinding out a 52-45 win over Sandpoint in a physical nonleague boys basketball game Thursday night at Les Rogers Court.

James Carlson scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Timberwolves (11-4), including a one-handed dunk for an and-one that helped ignite a decisive 17-4 third quarter run that swung the tide of the game.

The Bulldogs (2-13) had three players in double-figures, led by Robbie Johnson with 14, Alex Stockton with 11 and Patrick Rockwell with 10, including two 3-pointers.

The game got heated in the second half, when some post-whistle pushing and showing led to the ejections of Sandpoint's Patrick Rockwell and Lake City's Kyle Manzardo. It appeared briefly that Bulldogs head coach Kent Leiss was also ejected for two technicals during the stoppage of play, but he was allowed to continue coaching after the refs deemed he only picked up one.
