Webster claims title at Rocky Mountain Rumble

COEUR d’ALENE — Led by a breakout performance from junior Andrew Webster, the Bulldog wrestling team posted a solid 6th place finish at the 20 team Rocky Mountain Rumble last weekend at Coeur d’Alene High School.
Webster knocked off the No. 4 ranked 4A 170 pound wrestler in the state in his first match, then proceeded to pin opponents from Mountain Home and Middleton before earning a tough 6-5 decision over West Valley in the championship.
Webster’s performance might have surprised the field, including the No. 4 ranked Moscow wrestler, but not first year Bulldog head coach Jake Stark.
“Andrew wrestled exceptional this weekend,” claimed Stark. He has been really been turning it up in practice and on the mat lately and I knew it was just a matter of time before he landed on top of the podium.”
Owen Stebbins, the No. 4 ranked wrestler in the state at 182 pounds according to the Idahowrestler.com power rankings, finishing third, while teammate Preston Bunty, ranked No. 5 in the state, also finished third in some pretty tough brackets.
Calum Wilcox was fourth at 195, Zack Alamillo fifth at 220 and Casey Olesen fifth at 106 to round out the Bulldogs earning podium spots.
“I feel we wrestled solid this weekend,” said Stark, whose team got to wrestle a lot of souther 4A and 5A state powers. “The North Idaho Rumble is always a tough tournament and I feel that if you can place there then have a shot at placing at state.”
The Bulldogs will get back to duals, with a road test Wednesday at Lake City and a home dual Friday night against Moscow for Senior Night.
