While this letter will appear after July 4th, I would however like to comment on the recent letters on this page from several readers. Mr. Keil, Mr. Johnson and the Cramers.

Apparently they both forgot or do not know what America is really about. They have their conservative state here in Idaho, but continue to rally against the non-conservative voices here as if Idaho was a liberal bastion. According to them, freedom of speech is free, apparently if you only speak “conservatese.” The same goes for the Lions who I think would welcome any peaceful display of the freedom of speech as cited in the First Amendment. The most important amendment in my book. After all, they’ve allowed the tea party to march and aren’t they a protest group?

Those conservative friends I just mentioned also have a selective memory when it comes to whom is showing disrespect for the president and candidates for the office. Wasn’t it a Republican congressman who yelled out: “You Lie!” during an early Obama address to Congress? Didn’t the conservative National Review portray Michelle Obama as a monkey and the president was once referred to as one? Didn’t conservative celebrity Ted Nugent say he’d like to see a hit put out on Hillary Clinton? Space prevents me from citing further examples, except to say that those in glass houses shouldn’t be throwing stones. After all isn’t “your” congressman and future governor calling for civility now?
