By way of the internet, a disturbing article, The Irish Slave Trade — The Forgotten “White” Slaves by John Martin, is currently making the rounds within the white racist community. Martin’s claim has fueled many popular memes which imply that white slave descendants have shrugged off their history of oppression, while black slave descendants are still asking for handouts. It is easy to see why white racists embrace this notion.
This article has become fashionable among some local North Idaho racists especially those in our immediate area. The article is garbage pure and simple and is filled with half truths and outright lies.
The Irish Slave Trade… article has been debunked by Liam Hogan (Alumnus, University of Limerick, Limerick, Ireland), and last year, 82 Irish scholars and writers signed an open letter denouncing the Irish slave myth.
