Dear Mr. President,
I urge you to NOT pull back from the Paris climate agreement. People all across the United States support the Paris agreement by a 5-to-1 margin. Please don’t give the fossil fuel industry priority over us people or our planet.
If your priority is to create jobs for the American people then staying in the Paris agreement is what you need to do. The agreement will continue to provide the market drive toward renewable energy. According to the DOE 2017 U.S. Energy and Employment Report, clean electricity jobs have already outnumbered jobs provided by the fossil fuel industry by at lease five to one and they tend to be local and above-the-average median wages.
Backing out of this unprecedented international climate change agreement, we would not only pass on an invaluable insurance policy for our planet, but we would also isolate ourselves from the rest of the world, and lose out on an opportunity to take on international leadership in renewable energy industry. Please do keep the U.S. in the Paris climate agreement. It isn’t perfect, but it is the backbone of international action to tackle the greatest challenge facing our civilization: climate change.
