Dive right into summer's fun, entertainment options

SANDPOINT — From concerts to musical revues, from poetry to choral sounds to film, this week has it all for Sandpoint culture lovers.

Things start with a bang this afternoon up in Bonners Ferry, with the first session of a very cool 10-week Summer Choir program for kids. On Saturday, Patrice Webb and her trio play the Farmers Market and Brother Music blends original poetry and harp guitar in the Library lobby. Also Saturday, get dancin’ to great country music with Country Plus at the Senior Center.

On Sunday, it’s one of the loveliest fun-run views anywhere, as the Bay Trail Fun Run takes over the shores of Lake Pend Oreille. Also, the Panida is showing the hit film, ‘The Promise’ through the weekend.

Thursday, June 8

‘The Promise’

Venue: Panida Little Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Set during the last days of the Ottoman Empire, The Promise follows a love triangle between Michael, a brilliant medical student, the beautiful and sophisticated Ana, and Chris — a renowned American journalist based in Paris.

Open Mic with Kevin Dorin

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 312 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6 p.m.

Come out for a positive environment to share your passion or just come to take it all in! All levels of performers are welcome. The set will be recorded live and artists will have access to the audio.

Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

Summer Choir for Kids

Venue: Novinger’s Music Center, 6426 Kootenai St., in Bonners Ferry

Time: 3 p.m.

This high-quality 10-week Summer Choir program is for first- through sixth-graders. At the conclusion of rehearsals, three performances will be presented: at the Community Restorium, at The Pearl Theater, and at the Boundary County Fair.

The choir will be directed by Glenda Novinger, who brings 40-plus years of music education and performance experience.

Cost: $10 per child for each rehearsal (a 5 percent sibling discount will be applied to additional students from the same family). There will be no additional charge for music, materials or performances.

‘The Promise’

KRFY Live Membership Drive

Venue: KRFY-FM Community Radio, 323 N. First Ave. (upstairs), in downtown Sandpoint.

Swing into the KRFY studios for two full days of live music and on-air fun as Sandpoint’s community radio station launches its annual membership drive!

One Street Over

Fun rock and roll with a non-typical selection of obscure favorites.

Ron Greene

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 312 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7 p.m.

Ron has been a dynamic musical presence as a professional musician and solo artist, spending the last decade performing throughout the Northwest and West Coast. Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

‘Legends & Lore

Venue: Circle Moon Theatre, located on Highway 211, 3 1/2 miles north of Highway 2, near Newport, Wash.

Time: 6:30 p.m. dinner service, curtain opens at 7:30 p.m. — Fri. June 9

Rainbows, unicorns, folklore, and much more will be celebrated with a handful of giggles in ‘Legends & Lore,’ the spring production of Northwoods Performing Arts.

Additional shows on June 10, 13, and 16-17.

Patrice Webb Trio

Venue: Sandpoint Farmers Market, Farmin Park, Third Ave. & Oak St., downtown Sandpoint.

Time: Market starts at 9 a.m., music from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Take in the weekend in style by strolling our magnificent market to the sounds of the Patrice Webb Trio. She’s a stunningly great singer and instrumentalist, with a roster of original songs that will put a smile on your face.

Admission: Free and open to the public.

Brother Music ‘Soul Psalms & Songs’

Venue: Easy Bonner County Library, Sandpoint branch, 1407 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 2-3:30 p.m.

Longtime local artist Brother Music shares a new creative expression, with original poetry and songs accompanied by his harp guitar. This musician has a long held reputation for artistic growth and stretching creative boundaries.

Dance to ‘Country Plus’

Venue: Sandpoint Senior Center, 820 Main St., in Sandpoint.

Time: Dance from 1-4 p.m., potluck at 2:30 p.m. (Dances held every second and fourth Saturday of each month.

Local music buffs are well aware of what Country Plus has to offer — the combined talents of Betty and Harold Overland along with Joanne and Bob Brown. Admission: Free and open to all ages.

Spring Cornhole Tourney

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 312 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Registration ends at 12:30 p.m., first toss at 1 p.m.

It’s the first Spring Cornhole Classic (rain or shine)! Cornhole kings and queens will be taking to outdoor court or inside the brewery where they will have up to four regulation courts set up to test your tossin’ abilities in a double elimination tournament.
