Frederick Joseph “Joe” Kelly, 77, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, in Sandpoint, Idaho.
A Vigil Service with Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, at St. Joseph’s with Father Dennis C. Day officiating.
Joe was one of seven children, born on March 18, 1940, in Kirksville, Mo., to Fred and Lena Kelly. He attended Kirksville schools and worked at Belchers Drug and Journal Printing Company during high school. He played softball, basketball and football and was tri-captain of his football team. Joe and Judy were in the junior high operetta together but never dated in high school.
Joe married Judy Moore on August 25, 1962. They were baptized on the same day at Mary Immaculate Church, the same church they were married in. They made their home in Arlington and Tyler, Texas, for 22 years and then Kansas City, Mo., for 22 years. They moved to Tampa, Fla., for seven years and finally to Sandpoint, Idaho, to be closer to family.
Joe graduated from Kirksville State Teachers College with his bachelor’s degree in 1964. He worked for Marion Laboratories based in Kansas City as a pharmaceutical salesman for 26 years. He retired from Marion Laboratories as a sales trainer at the age of 51 to enjoy the rest of his life.
Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, playing cards, road trips with his sister Rose, family gatherings, musicals, Irish music, his trip to Ireland with his girls and basically anything Irish.
He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Judith Kelly; two daughters, Teri and Kerry Kelly; two granddaughters, Cassidy and Colleen; a great-granddaughter, Catrina; a sister, Patsy Reed; brother Charles T. Kelly; and brother Mike Kelly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lena; two brothers, Jack and Ed; and a sister, Rose.
