Last year, Sen. James Risch introduced legislation that would establish a new Scotchman Peaks Wilderness Area. I support the proposed wilderness that was described in his legislation and I have written him asking that he re-submit that legislation during the 2017 session.
My father’s family moved to northern Idaho in 1915. My mom’s family settled here in 1926. I remember my dad talking about the changes he saw in his lifetime to the forests, mountains, and waters of northern Idaho. He worked in the timber industry most of his life and he commented that he wished we had saved more of the wild places that he hunted and fished in when he was young.
Sen. Risch’s legislation will help keep some of the last of our undisturbed public lands in their natural state. The proposed wilderness is a small fraction of our public lands in northern Idaho. We need a quiet place right here where we live that is unchanged by humans and will stay that way for our future generations to visit.
Please let the senator, other members of our federal and state delegations, and our county commissioners know that you, too, want to save one of the last wild places left here in northern Idaho.
