There's plenty to do to fill long summer nights

SANDPOINT — Here we are in the middle of June and, as the longest day of the year approaches, those extra hours of daylight pay off — we need them just to keep up with all the cool happenings around town.

Friday night at the Panida, Sandpoint’s own Oscar-winning lensman, Erik Daarstad, will be the subject of a fun and friendly roast. Also Friday, local artist Mary Maio’s ArtWalk opening reception will be held at Santosha. That same evening, the epically talented group Mobius Riff takes the stage at Eichardt’s

Our neighbors to the west are busy with live theater, as the Pend Oreille Playhouse in Newport opens its run of the rollicking musical ‘Legally Blonde’ and Northwoods Performing Arts continues its hit dinner show, ‘Legends & Lore’ at the Circle Moon Theater.

Bikes & Beers benefit

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30 p.m.

MickDuff’s Beer Hall is partnering with the Idaho Walk Bike Alliance and the Pend Oreille Pedalers to host a fun night where $2.50 of every beer sold during the event and raffle items proceeds will go to the IWBA. IWBA representatives will be in town to tell us all the things happening at a state local to support our bikers and walkers, as well as keeping them safe!

Erik Daarstad Roast

A lighthearted evening of fun and fandom, as we celebrate our Academy Award-winning cinematographer.

Admission: $10 donation to the Panida Theater includes a glass of beer or wine (for those 21 and older), appetizers, and cake and coffee.

Mary Maio ArtWalk Opening Reception

Venue: Santosha, 212 N. First. Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30 p.m.

As part of the Pend Oreille Arts Council’s annual ArtWalk, Santosha hosts the opening reception of Mary Maio’s exhibition of ‘Exotic Travels in South East Asia.’ Santosha storeowner and dress designer, Susan Wentz, traveled throughout South East Asia and documented the trip with photos on her cell phone. These images inspired artist Mary Maio to paint a selection of her photographed landscapes and cityscapes. The exhibit will be up through Sept. 7.

Mobius Riff at Eichardt’s Pub

‘Legally Blonde’

Venue: Pend Oreille Playhouse, 236 S. Union St., in Newport, Wash.

Time: 7 p.m.

Directed by Charlie Monte with music directed by Millie Brumbaugh and choreography by Isabelle White, ‘Legally Blonde, The Musical’ is written by Heather Hach and based on the blockbuster 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon. It tells the story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who enrolls at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend, Warner, after he dumps her for not being ‘serious enough.
